There are so many factors that can cause a garage door opener
to fail to work. Some of this problems are minute and can be fixed while others
can bring a total damage to the door. However, the following piece of
information will greatly help you to know when something is wrong with your
garage door.
Rust
One of the most common problems on the garage door is rust on
the springs. A spring that has rust tends to increase the amount of friction on
the coil. This rust tends to corrode the coil therefore weakening the springs.
However you can reduce or prevent the probability of getting rust by applying
lubricant after every three to four months. This will prevent any rust from
building on your garage door.
Incorrect springs
Different garage door openers have different types of springs
that are designed to work with their specific models. Sometimes a spring that is
used for a particular door may not be the specified one. The length of the
spring and the size of the wire may note fit very well on the door opener.
Therefore, the spring is more likely to break and cause failure very
quickly.
Wear and Tear
It is one of the most common problems that cause failure to
the garage door opener. The springs of the door last only for a very short
period of time. Wear and tear is caused mainly by excess, up and down cycles.
Many people go through more than two cycles every day. Therefore at this rate,
the door is very likely to wear and tear very fast.
Poor Maintenance
Most people have a very poor habit of maintenance garage
doors. If you maintain your garage door opener very well then the spring is
going to take a very longer time without getting any problem. Remember do not
forget to lubricate your door on a regular basis.
